Wednesday night: we watched American Idol with Jody. Dad pointed at Steven Tyler and said, Is that a woman or man? When Jody said which one, he said, "that guy, I mean is that a woman or man"? He had fun joking about him.
Thursday was Dr, Dentist, hearing aid day. Dad was up early so I scheduled a 1200 appointment at the dentist, then took him to Costco to get his hearing aids cleaned and adjusted, then at 3 he had his Dr. appointment. He did really well going to all those places. He always remembers everyone by face and looks happy to see them.
Friday, I took dad to a Gem and Rock Fair in Spanish Fork (thanks Jody for telling us about it). Dad seemed to have fun. There was a man wearing a dinosaur bone costume who kept "biting" us. We won the special prize on a spin the wheel contest: 4 rocks! Dad took a long time sorting through the bin and found just the right ones. There was a lot of sorting and choosing of rocks at various booths. Too many for me, but he seemed to like it. it was a big place with lots of things to see. He ran into someone who recognized him from his gardening days. he said he used to talk with dad a lot about plants. There was a sifting station too (like the mining thing at Snowbird). But there were actual crystals from the ground (not seeded). So dad found one big one and a few little ones. He was disappointed since there were only a few and only one color. He got impatient with the person helping us and poured the rest of the sand on the sifter by himself. He knew how to do it I guess! Dad ate a whole sloppy joe sandwich. I guess it was good. And he talked a lot, but I couldn't understand much. He looked like he was lecturing about the size of rocks and other details. He likes to be an authority. Another highlight was when he picked up a big rock (bigger than his head) and lifted it up and down showing off how strong he was. It was actually a pumice stone so it was lighter than it looked, but it was still heavy.
Saturday, we went to Ogden to see Sarah. She's going to Japan today. We went to a Chinese Buffet place for dinner and Dad filled two plates really high. He ate a lot from one plate but he was pocketing his food again so I don't think much of the food went into his stomach. But he had fun picking out his own food. He walked around the food tables pushing the wheelchair with one hand. We watched half of the Jazz game at Mamiyo's and when we were ready to leave, he said, "it's not over yet!" And asked if the Jazz were winning. When we got home, Dennis had recorded the game so we watched it again there. They went into overtime so it was an exciting game. Sumo starts today.
