When I came over today, George was up, dressed and sitting on the couch! Yeah :) It only took a little while to finish getting ready. We went to Cactus and Tropicals in Draper. I told George that Sharon and David had a Birthday present for him and we needed to pick it up. He smiled. They had a really nice arrangement for him. How nice ;) We went to lunch after wards at Janbo Express. It was a Chinese place. He said he liked the food too :) We stopped off at the Pet store on the way home and he seemed more interested in the ‘stuff’ there than the pets. Course they really had a lack of pets today. One of the birds was on my shoulder trying to eat my hat. There was a strange looking fish too.

George had just gotten up when I came over today. It took forever to find his teeth…when he was ready, he chose American food today and I showed him some cards. We went to Paradise Bakery for lunch today. He wanted to go on Sunday but they were closed. He pretty much ate everything! It was really good, even he thought so ;) We had the butternut squash soup he likes and he had a half a sandwich and coffee. We went to Wheeler Farm afterwards too. It was really windy today. There is a storm coming in either tonight or early morning.

When I came over, George was still in bed. I knocked and then opened his door to let him know I was here. He said "I'm still sleeping". I gave him time to get up, he got up pretty quickly, I could hear the sink running ;) after he was ready to go, He talked to Sharon and David on the skype for a little bit and then we went to lunch at Denny's. He was pretty quite at lunch and when I asked him why, he said he was tired. He ate almost all of his lunch :) After wards we went to Iron Mesa park to go for a walk. We watched others playing Frisbee, going for a walk and just out enjoying the day. It was getting cold so we left. George noticed, as we were leaving that the moon was up! We drove away into the sun, weird. We saw lots of airplanes in the sky too.
His BP was 150/64 and his weight was 91 lbs.

George got up pretty early today. I was in the bathroom getting ready and it was around 11ish. He looked at me like ‘what are you doing here’. I had to remind him that Dennis and Trevor were out of town and that I was staying at the house. I told him I was getting ready to go and he should to. We went out to brunch and then went to the dentist afterwards. Everything is fine :)
(His sleeping patterns and routine seem to be different day to day).

Monday and Tuesday February 7th & 8th 2011

I had errands to run but I was at the house in the evening. George was up until 4:00 am! I tried everything to get him to go to bed even thinking if I said that I couldn’t sleep he would think “Oh, ok dear” and go to bed. He just said “I don’t care”, and “you don’t need to sleep”. It was an interesting night. I kept showing him the time but that didn’t seem to matter to him. “What’s the difference?” is all he said.
Tuesday afternoon he finally woke up around 2:30. I thought I’d let him sleep since he didn’t go to bed until really late. He took a nap around 7:00 pm and when he woke up he told me “Good morning” I had to remind him it was still night time. He went to bed late again, but not as late.

George was dressed, asleep and on the couch today when I came over. It took him awhile to get going today. I gave him two options today; stay home order a pizza and watch the super bowl or go out to eat. He said he’s ‘not really into that stuff’ (Meaning super bowl) he said he wanted to go eat. I showed him the cards from the places we have gone and he actually chose one! We went to a pho place that we had been to before. He remembered going there. When he got home he took a shower.
Dennis and Trevor will be out of town for a ski comp. I’ll be staying at the house until Wednesday.

When I came over today George was still in bed. He was really confused this morning/afternoon. But he was able to get up and get going. He had a podiatrist apt. today with Dr. Kunz, it was hard to get him out and get going. We ate at a new place on Highland Dr. called Ming’s Garden (Something like that). After that we drove to the store to cash his check. He kept falling asleep and when we pulled up at the store I was telling him what he needed to do and he woke up :)

I mentioned to George today that it was February. He said “Oh is that right?” I told him his Birthday was coming up soon, he just smiled. All we have been able to do lately is just go to lunch. He’s just so tired and not wanting to wake up or just wanting to go back to bed. He really wanted this breakfast, he ate all but maybe one bite.

When I came over today George wasn’t up yet or dressed. I gave him 10 minutes to lay down, then he would have to get up and get dressed. When he was ready to go he said he wanted to eat lunch at a "Japanese restaurant." The place we tried to go to was closed so we went across the street to a Thai place instead. It was really nice inside. We went to Dr. Baker’s after wards and he wants us to bring pictures of when George was young. :) We made an appointment for 3 months and then we went and picked up his prescription at the store.

We went to a place for lunch called Anna's cafe. When I asked George if he liked it he said "I like it, it's big". After lunch we went to the pet store to look at all of the pets. They didn’t have any kittens but he liked the new puppies and the birds. Dennis and Trevor are out of town in Sun Valley. I’m staying here while they are gone.

George was half dressed in his room when I came over. He had a Dr's apt today but when we got there the Doctor was out for the day. I made another appointment for next week. We went to lunch at Hopper's. I asked him if he liked the place, he looked around the booth we were sitting at and said "What's the difference?” There was a woman at the restaurant that thought he was 'cute' :)
He really liked the ice water. He said "It's really good" and did his OK sign. We went for a short drive after wards. I had to leave to go see my Dad. George talked to Sharon on the phone when we got home. It was good weather today, cool but nice. He also took a shower today.
His weight was 90 lbs. and his BP was 130/68

Today when I came over, George was up sitting on the couch and watching TV in his robe. He had just gotten up. I took him to his room and he got ready to go. When he was ready we went to the Dentist for a check up. Everything is fine. We tried to go to lunch at Sharon's Cafe by his barbershop but they were closed. We went to the Chinese restaurant by his barbershop and stopped in a store to look around. (He was looking through the window) ;) We walked over to his barbershop and he even had his hair washed. He was saying it was warm 'like a shower'. After his haircut we came home. It was a good day; he got ready pretty fast and seemed to be 'himself' today.

Today when I came over George was in his room looking at pictures, he wasn’t fully dressed so I thought I’d get him in the shower. I think that made him really confused. He was asking who I work for (Because I was trying to help him with ‘private things’). It was cute cause he said “I appreciate what you do, but…” When he was ready to go we went to a really late lunch, he was telling ‘pointing’ to me where he wanted to go and he said “Right there, ihop”. Normally he doesn’t want to go there, but I guess he was hungry. He was OK once he was out and seemed to forget all about this afternoon. Dennis will get him in the shower later on tonight. He talked to Sharon today too.
His BP and weight have been pretty consistent the past month. (His BP is where it normally is).

George has talked to Sharon this week, on the phone and on skype. Hopefully he will get back on a normal schedule soon. He’s not sleeping very well and seems more confused but I think it’s mostly from lack of sleep. He was looking at Sharon and David's wedding pictures today while he was eating.

We got out late today and went to lunch at the tofu place by Albertson’s. George was pretty amazed at how much food they brought out. They brought mine out first and he said “Did you order all that food!” and when they brought his out he said laughing “That’s a lot of food!” it was cute. He said he really liked that place. I know we haven’t been getting out until late, sometimes not at all because George has been so tired lately.

He’s been confused during the day, but after talking to Dennis we realized he is that way when he first gets up. George got in the shower today and afterwards we took down the Christmas tree.

Happy New Year!

I’m going to start coming over on Sunday’s instead of Monday’s during the winter, Dennis is at work on that day. I think today George got up really late; we didn’t get a whole lot done. I think we just stayed in and had lunch and played bingo. He was pretty tired.

Monday December 27th Wednesday December 29th and Friday December 31st I was out of town for Christmas. I know Sharon and David kept George busy and entertained :) I hope they all had a good week!

I came late today; we had a hard time getting out of the house. George couldn’t stop picking things up off the floor. That kept him distracted. We finally made it to Dollar Tree to pick up some candles to make at home.
Sharon is in town for the holidays. David will be coming soon too. :)

Today I took George in to the Dr’s to get a blood draw. I had them get his weight and BP at the office. It was the same as it is at home. We put a few more things on the Christmas tree. George is really particular where things go. The tree looks great!

Things we did while visiting over the holidays

David and I (Sharon) visited dad from mid Dec. to Jan 1. David left earlier on Christmas eve. Don came out the week between Christmas and New Years too! We had the usual get together with Ogden relatives (Patty, Dan, Sarah and Auntie Mamiyo) on New Years Day. We had lots of good food. Patty made teriyaki chicken, macaroni salad and jello. I made a couple of Japanese dishes (Nanairo namasu, and shira-ae), and bought some traditional New Years food from Sage Market. While we were there, dad and Don ran into and talked to Dr. Watanabe (we think). We also ran into Auntie Yo! She and Raymond came to visit a few days later. And we got to see Richard Maack and his girlfriend a couple of times. Dad was really happy to see him especially. He said, "Where you been?" and lifted his glass to toast him. Dad still remembers most people's faces but forgets names. He remembered Raymond's name.

We took him out as much as we could but it was very snowy and cold on some days. We managed to go to the cemetary (he walked out to the grave sites and cleaned some off some leaves with his cane. There were lots of gopher mounds which he kept poking at trying to push them down. Before that, we went to Home Depot and dad did great driving the cart! He even maneuvered around tight corners. He picked out the pointsettias for the graves. We also went to Crazy Jims with Auntie Fran and Tom and to Iggy's with Ron across the street. He had a good appetite and was pretty much like usual (choosing his own food, etc.). Don took me and my dad out to a Pho place. He really liked the soup a lot but couldn't chew the meat very well. His dentures have been bothering him but we got them relined.

The biggest change is his sleep pattern. He's staying up all night now (dozing on and off) and not going to bed. He's really confused about time. And he has a harder time communicating it seems, especially on the phone or skype.
Oh, and he had a lot of fun making candles and soap with Jody. She made a LOT of soap and candles to give as gifts. Really cute! But poor, Jody. Her back was hurting really badly for quite awhile. But she still comes to help dad. Thank you! The soap looks like stained glass and he said, "Pretty!" when he put it up to the light. He likes to look at the Christmas lights across the street and always comments on pretty things.

George was awake today when I came over! He was dressed and had his hair combed and was pretty much ready to go :) We went to the liquor store (We are having a party for Dennis tonight). We came home and talked to Sharon on the phone for a little bit then we went out to the store again to pick up ‘stuff’. It was raining but he still got out and went to the store. Hopefully it will be a good night.

Today George was acting a little tired. He was saying “I’m just not here; I don’t know what’s going on”. It’s good that he recognizes he has been a little confused. He did talk a little bit more today. We had lunch at home and he ate really well! Even had seconds :) after lunch we put up and decorated the Christmas tree. He laughed when he saw his Christmas house that he made last year :) He seemed like he liked doing the ‘Christmas’ thing. After we put up the lights and the decorations he sat down in the chair and I turned on the back massager.
His weight was 90 lbs. Finally! (Without shoes). He had a little higher BP than his norm at 160/80. He was having coffee at the time and was feeling anxious. Both those things can make it higher. I’ll recheck it again on Wednesday

I didn’t come over on Wednesday, I worked at the hospital. I will see George on Friday.
George was up late again last night. He was still in bed when I came over. When he got up and was ready to go we went to the podiatrist and then had a late lunch. After lunch we went to the credit union to cash his check. He came home, made a drink then read the paper.
Since last week he has been what I call ‘acting old’. He hasn’t been talking very much and doesn’t stay focused. He also has been staying up really late. Dennis mentioned that in the evening he’s more alert and active.
