I was a little late coming over today. It was around 3:00 when we were finally ready. He was mentioning that his ear hurt from his hearing aid. I made some lunch at home and then took George to Cosco to have his hearing aid checked and re-fitted. We didn’t have to wait too long to get it fixed. He just has to have it out during the weekend and then I’ll put in back in on Monday. On our drive there it sounded like my car was being pelted with ping pong balls! When we got to the store it was sunny and hot!

George was asleep on the couch when I came over today. He got ready to go pretty quickly. I asked him if Elise(sp) came yesterday and he said “I think she comes on Thursday.” He said she was a pretty girl and that I was too and he was lucky ;) He mentioned that the massage therapist came too to give him a ‘rub down’ I asked him if he liked it, he gave me a concerned look and said “No” I think he may have been confused having her come in, he said she did the massage slow. I let George rest for 10 minutes after he got his shoes on. He decided to go to the mountains after I gave him 3 choices. We were heading up to Snowbird in a round about way but when we got to the base of the mountain there were backhoes and cones so we went for a drive and into Lone Peak Park. George was wondering what the place was. We watched some kids play soccer…for a minute then ended up at Cy’s all seasons market and deli. It seemed like an interesting place so we went there. George bought 2 tomatoes there too. We took our lunches and went to the park. We met a cute little 20 month old boy and when he left he kept turning around waving and saying "bye bye", it was cute :) It started to rain a bit and when we were driving home it was raining hard. When we pulled up in the driveway it was hailing! At least I got a car wash :) I had George get in the shower today and I’ll get him in again on Monday.

Sharon left this morning to go back to Minnesota. When I came over, I made George some lunch and we ate outside. I had to go in cause I could not deal with the duck head :/ I stayed out there as long as I could. I think he threw it over the balcony but I didn’t go look. But really…After he was done we looked at all the new pictures that Sharon put on the picture frame. He remembered a lot of them and even the big little boy from Minnesota. He kept saying “Is that me?” He also said “There’s not a picture of my Sister, Peace.” At the end of looking at them, he said “Where is your husband, I was waiting to see him.” When I told him I wasn’t married he said “Oh really?” in that high pitch voice that is so funny. We just went for a drive today, not really sure what’s open today and besides it’s late. He pointed me where to go and we made it up to Brighton. I had the idea of getting out at Silver Lake just to look around a bit. There were tons of mosquito’s there so we just walked back (Kinda fast) to the car. When I got in, he laughed said “Mosquito’s." When we got back he had a snack that he got himself :)

Today George was sitting on the couch when I came over and right after I came over the nurse came to see him too. We went to Snowbird to go on the tram; we thought it would be a fun thing to do together since Sharon is leaving on Monday. (Good idea ;) )We went and got a sandwich at the shop at Snowbird and took it up and had lunch outside first. George even had a beer. It was a nice tram ride and the views were really pretty. He was concerned about a little boy falling over the edge. He was ‘talking’ to the dad as he pointed telling him to stay away from the edge or he would fall. The Dad knew what he was talking about as he was pointing ;) We were looking over the edge of the mountain and he starting laughing, I thought he saw a squirrel, he said, “Can’t you see it?” come to find out, he was looking at a pole or a sign and thought it was a ‘camera’. The weather was really nice up there today, perfect day :) when we came down from the tram we asked George if he wanted to do the rock mining today, he said “Nah, I have enough rocks at home. We went over and watched the kid’s rock climb on the rock wall, he seemed to enjoy that. When we got home, I got out of the car and he looked at me and laughed, he said “I didn’t know you were there?” it was funny. He got in the shower with some prompting after wards. Today George wanted to go to Park City to see the ski jumpers. He always does the hand motion of jumping when he says he wants to go there. He had a hotdog up there while watching the jumpers. It was really busy there today, but he wanted to go after a little bit. We asked him if he wanted to drive up into Park City, he was being nice and said something like “If that’s what you want to do, let’s go.” Sharon mentioned going to the bar so he could have a drink. There was a dog there that he saw and after he was done with his drink, the guy that owned the dog asked if he wanted to pet him, that was really sweet :) George wasn’t too happy about leaving after he had a drink, I think he just wanted to hang out at the bar…next time. We went in some shops but he just wasn’t into anything, he wanted to be at the bar. I tried to explain that we needed to leave because we were all going out to sushi and he could have a drink there. We didn’t want him to have too much before dinner. We went to dinner at the dojo. It was Sharon, Dennis, Ryan, me and George that went. Thanks Sharon :)

More updates on outings with dad

Thanks Jody for taking and posting so many pictures of us at Tracy Aviary and Snowbird! It was fun going out with you guys. I posted a few pictures on photobucket. Here's one. In between outings with Jody, we managed to go to Ogden a couple of times and stopped in at the Aeronautical Museum at Hill Airforce Base. It was really cool to see all those different fighter jets, helicopters and bombers right up close. Dad also has bursts of energy and gets busy working as you can see from the picture of him cleaning the pond.

George was out on the porch sweeping with his sandle today, I went and brought him a broom and he finished sweeping the porch then he sat out on a chair for a bit. He got ready pretty quick today cause Sumo was on. He fell asleep during that and I let him sleep for a while. I woke him up to go and change his pants (they got dirty from being outside) and to get ready to go out; He kept falling asleep, he’s pretty tired today. We all went up to Snowbird today to do the ‘rock thing.’ We got some lunch there and ate outside first. We were looking at the mountains and George said “If I was young enough, I’d like to go all the way to the top.” He found lots of rocks. We came home and he got in the shower. Today after George was visiting with the nurses we went to Tracy Aviary with Sharon. We stopped off first to pick up some lunch at the Park Café to take with us. We sat down at a park bench when we got at the Aviary to have lunch. Quite a few peacocks came over by the table and George fed them almost all of his lunch! One of them ate out of my hand too. There has been some construction at the Aviary and it looked really nice. He fed some of the birds with the bird food that Sharon bought. We saw all kinds of pretty and different birds. It was kind of hot and he kept falling asleep. I think he liked it though. He came home and got into bed.

Just thought I'd post some highlights from our visit at the end of June and early July, 2011.

Dad's slower than before, doesn't seem to have as much energy or interest in doing things or talking to people. But we did manage to do a few things such as:

*Wendover--he did great at first but once we switched machines, he got very confused and thought there was something wrong with the machine. Too bad technology has made it more confusing for him. He still liked the buffet a lot and picked out 3 plates of food.
*Sundance, Alpine Loop Drive and Cascade Springs--beautiful day; he had fun poking at stuff in the water as usual. I only ordered soup and a smoothie for him but he wanted to know where his sandwich was. He ate almost half of his sandwich.
*Red Butte Garden--he liked to stop and smell the roses. He has his preferences. he enjoyed feeding the ducks but not as much as before.
*Park City-ski jumping

He was happy to see Dr. Baker and his nurse, Misty. But getting his ears cleaned out was really painful. We're trying to get a replacement for his hearing aids--something bigger and easier to find. Hope he gets used to them.

Today he was fascinated by the yard sale going on at the end of his street. So he didn't want to go to breakfast with Ron (his nice neighbor across the street), but sat in full sun for probably 2-3 hours! He said he would go inside soon, but didn't and when i got home, he was really wiped out. Luckily he was in the shade by then, but it was really worrysome. Today is Obon which he didn't want to go to either. So we watched all the dances on you-tube from last year. I suppose that's good enough.

George was eating lunch when I came over today. He went to the ear Doctor with Sharon this morning and got his ears cleaned out and is getting new hearing aids soon. When he was done with lunch, he decided he wanted to go see the ski jumpers at Park City. There weren’t too many people there when we first got there, but more people came and it was pretty busy. He stayed longer than last time. Sharon bought us some ice cream. When we got home he sat outside on the patio and watched Dennis, Ryan, Trevor and Carl (There are 3 more pictures on photobucket of today.)

I was over on the weekend and George, Sharon, David and Dennis were outside watching the neighbor’s fireworks. George was sitting in a chair on the lawn watching them. He really liked them. When I came over today he was asleep on the couch. He couldn’t decide what he wanted to do. We were going to go to Mt. Fugi for lunch (Sharon had a certificate that we were going to use) he was busy knocking off the heads of the mushrooms in the front yard; I couldn’t get him to get in the car. but when we got there they were closed :( We went to Black Bear Diner instead. He saw his neighbor Linda when we went to lunch. We had to come home after lunch. He got in the shower when we got home. I had him go outside after wards so he could take care of the mushrooms ;) He was pretty quiet today.
